There are a lot of quality new anime series airing in 2021, and Mushoku Tensei, which is also known as Jobless Reincarnation, is one of the most outstanding titles of them. Mushoku Tensei began with the season 1’s first part from January 2021 and its second half was broadcast in autumn of 2021. Furthermore, Mushoku Tensei Season 2 is being broadcasted in 2023, and the anime is gaining even more momentum.
Based on the light novel written by Rifujin na Magonote and illustrated by Shirotaka since 2014, the anime adaptation of Mushoku Tensei is receiving praise from many fans of the original story and modern anime. After the 23rd and final episode was released in the end of the year, many of them are missing Mushoku Tensei.

How many volumes does Mushoku Tensei have?
Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation started its publication on a popular user-generated publishing website Shosetsuka ni Naro in 2012, written by Rifujin na Magonote. And then, its physical light novel series has been serialized with an illustrator Shirotaka since 2014. Finally, it was announced that the light novel series of Mushoku Tensei would be completed with the 26th volume in November, 2022.
It has been also adapted into the manga series by a manga artist Yuka Fujikawa since 2014. The Mushoku Tensei manga series has 19 volumes so far (the latest 19th volume released in July, 2023).
There is also a spin-off manga titled Mushoku Tensei: Roxy Gets Serious, featuring Roxy as the protagonist. Rifujin na Magonote is responsible for the original work, and Shoko Iwami is in charge of the illustration. All 12 volumes were published from 2017 to 2023, concluding in 64 chapters. This can also be read in English.
Light Novel: Which volume of Mushoku Tensei to read after the anime?
The first part of Mushoku Tensei Season 2 ends with Episode 12 “I Want to Tell You,” which corresponds to the beginning of the volume 10, Chapter 1 “Backing” in the light novel. You can enjoy the sequel of the anime by re-starting from Volume 10 Chapter 2 “Things to Prepare Before Marriage (Part 1).”

The latest 12 episodes in the anime series cover the Mid-Level Adventurer Arc (the Quagmire Arc) and the University Arc, and the second half of the second season will focus on Newlyweds Arc and Sisters Arc, and more.
There are several full-color and black-and-white illustrations in the light novel series as well as a cool front cover illustration of the main characters.

Manga: Which volume of Mushoku Tensei to read after the anime?
Of course, you can enjoy the sequel of the anime series of Mushoku Tensei on the manga adaptation. The anime’s last episode “I Want to Tell You” coincides with Volume 17 Chapter 78 “Supporter” in the manga.
In other words, you can enjoy the rest of the story after the anime by reading the manga adaptation from Volume 17 Chapter 79 “Things to Prepare Before Marriage” onwards.
However, regarding the manga, not much of the story ahead is available yet. For those who want to proceed further, I still recommend reading the original light novels.

Also Recommened to Read Mushoku Tensei: Roxy Gets Serious
The spin-off series, Mushoku Tensei: Roxy Gets Serious, can also be enjoyed as a manga. In this series, the story is narrated not from the protagonist Rudeus’ perspective, but from Roxy’s, starting with Roxy’s childhood and depicting up to her encounter with Rudeus.
It’s a must-read manga for Roxy fans. At the moment, there’s no anime adaptation, so this is a story that can only be enjoyed in this manga format.
When will Mushoku Tensei Season 3 air?
The production of Mushoku Tensei Season 3 has not been decided yet. Season 2 Part 1 was broadcasted from July to September 2023, and Part 2 will be broadcasted in the near future. The production of Season 3 will likely be decided after that, given that it is an extremely popular series and, although the original light novels have concluded, there is still much of the story left. Let’s continue to enjoy Mushoku Tensei patiently.
