The Saga of Tanya the Evil, which is also known as Youjo Senki in Japan, is one of the best modern anime series categorized as isekai that is a trendy Japanese pop culture genre. It has a unique plot centering on a nine-year-old girl fighting in an alternative World War I, who a thirty-something protagonist is reincarnated as in a different world.
The life of the little but frightening girl Tanya Degurechaff is just getting started in the anime series. Adapted from the same-titled light novel series published since 2013, the first season of The Saga of Tanya the Evil was made with 12 episodes by a Japanese anime studio NUT in 2017. It was followed by its sequel anime movie Saga of Tanya the Evil: The Movie in 2019. The light novel series has been also adapted into the popular manga series since 2016.

How many volumes does The Saga of Tanya the Evil have?
The Saga of Tanya the Evil was originally serialized on a user-generated publishing website Arcadia from 2011, written by Carlo Zen. Its light novel series as a physical book has been published with the illustrator Shinobu Shinotsuki since 2013. There are 12 volumes in the The Saga of Tanya the Evil light novel series (the latest 12th volume released in February, 2020).
It has been adapted into the manga series by the manga artist Chika Tojo since 2016, which is composed of 25 volumes so far (the latest 25th volume released in July, 2022).
Which should you choose, light novels or manga?
There appears to be two options to enjoy the following episodes after the anime: light novels and manga. However, it is only the light novel series for you to select since the manga series hasn’t caught up with the anime series yet. The first 20 volumes of the manga series cover the first season of the anime series, but the anime goes farther than that, followed by the sequel anime movie. If the manga series overtakes the anime before too long, the anticipated second season will come soon. That’s why it’s highly recommended to re-start the story with the light novel series that has many unadapted volumes.
Which volume to read after the The Saga of Tanya the Evil anime series?
The first season of The Saga of Tanya the Evil finished with Episode 12 “How to Use a Victory”, which corresponds to the light novel series from Volume 1 to Volume 3. And, Saga of Tanya the Evil: The Movie covers from Chapter I “Long range reconnaissance mission” to Chapter V “Battle of Dodobird” in Volume 4.
To enjoy the next story after the anime series and movie completed, you should re-start with Chapter VI “Operation Door knocker” in Volume 4.
