Sabikui Bisco, which is also known as Rust-Eater Bisco, is a new post-apocalyptic adventure anime that has gained worldwide popularity. Bisco, a boy known as the Mushroom Keeper with flaming red hair and sharp eyes, and Milo, a handsome young doctor with distinctive blue hair, embark on a perilous journey in a world succumbing to rust.
The first season of the Sabikui Bisco anime aired with 12 episodes in 2022, made by an anime studio OZ. It is based on the same titled light novel series that has been published since 2018. In the anime adaptation, the story is only just beginning. It has been also made into a manga adaptation since 2019.
If you have finished watching the existing anime series of Sabikui Bisco, aren’t you interested in the rest of the story? Today, I’d like to introduce where the Sabikui Bisco anime ends in the light novel and manga. So that you can enjoy the following story after the anime series by reading the original light novels or manga adaptation.

How many volumes does Sabikui Bisco have?
The light novel of Sabikui Bisco has been published since 2018, written by Shinji Cobkubo and illustrated by K Akagishi and Mocha. There are 9 volumes in the Sabikui Bisco light novel series so far (the latest 9th volume released in August 2023).
Its manga adaptation started in 2019, made from the original light novel series. Part 1, containing 4 volumes published between 2019 and 2021, was made with manga drawings by Yusuke Takahashi. It was followed by Part 2, consisting of 3 volumes published from 2021 to 2022, with arts by So Natsuki.
Which should you choose, light novels or manga?
Then, which is recommended to enjoy the sequel to the anime series, the light novel or manga? You should choose the light novel to continue after watching all of the anime episodes. The original light novel with illustrations will give you the chance to delve the authentic world of Sabikui Bisco. The English edition of the physical manga is not yet available, which is another reason that manga lovers should read the light novel series. You can read the first part as Rust-Eater Bisco in English on the online platform Comikey, though.
It goes without saying, but since the light novel, which is the original source, has the most advanced storyline, if you want to enjoy more of the story, it’s best to choose that.
Sabikui Bisco: Which Volume to Read after the Anime Series
Light Novel: Which volume of Sabikui Bisco to read after the anime?
The first season of the Sabikui Bisco anime finishes with Episode 12 “Bow and Arrow Duo,” which corresponds to the end of Volume 1 in the light novel. The first 12 episodes cover the entire of the first volume. So, you can re-start the story after the anime from Volume 2 of the light novel.
Season 1: Volume 1
Season 2: From Volume 2
Despite such a dense storyline, in terms of the light novel, only one volume’s worth of story has progressed in the first season. While Bisco and Milo’s battle has come to a temporary conclusion, a new problem arises, and the two set out on a journey again to resolve it. It’s impossible to look away from the upcoming story developments.
Manga: Which volume of Sabikui Bisco to read after the anime?
The first season of the anime, and correspondingly the first volume of the light novel, aligns with Volumes 1 to 4 of the manga (in other words, the entirety of Part 1). Therefore, to continue from where the anime left off, you can start reading from Volume 1 of Part 2 of the manga. However, the English translation is lagging, so reading the continuation in the manga might not be a very practical option.
Season 1: Part 1 Volume 1 to 4
Season 2: From Part 2 Volume 1
As previously mentioned, after finishing the anime, it’s recommended to read the light novel.
When will Sabikui Bisco Season 2 air?
Fortunately, the production of Sabikui Bisco Season 2 has already been confirmed. It has also been announced that Studio OZ, just like the first season, will undertake the animation production. It’s exciting news! For those who can’t wait for the anime sequel, let’s delve into the light novel and enjoy the further story ahead of time.
