1. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Hashira Training Arc (Season 4)

Spring 2024 is already shaping up to be a bountiful season for anime categorized as fantasy and adventure, and now this big title is joining the lineup. It’s the fourth season of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba (鬼滅の刃), subtitled Hashira Training Arc (柱稽古編). On December 10, 2023, through the Promotion Reel 2024 video, it was revealed that the fourth season will be broadcast starting in the spring of 2024. The first episode will be a one-hour special, equivalent to the volume of two regular episodes, so we anime fans will once again be quickly drawn back into the world of Demon Slayer.

The third season, Swordsmith Village Arc (刀鍛冶の里編), was aired in the spring of 2023, meaning the sequel is being released just a year later. High-quality animation by Ufotable is expected, but this series has never disappointed, so we can rest assured. In the fourth season, Tanjiro and his friends finally spend their days training under the Hashira in preparation for the important battle against the most powerful demons. Some Hashira, who haven’t been much focused on until now, are featured here. While the conclusion is still some way off, each episode is something to be cherished and enjoyed.

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation (無職転生 ~異世界行ったら本気だす~) has already been called one of the best anime series of the 2020s since its anime adaptation began in 2021, and the first part of the second season aired from July to September 2023 with 13 episodes. Although the production studio for the second season remained the same as that of the first, Studio Bind, there were concerns at first that the director had changed from Manabu Okamoto to Hiroki Hirano. However, when the second season began airing, fans were relieved to see the same high quality work. This Season 2 Part 2 should also be watched with peace of mind.

The story of the second season began with Rudeus in despair, thinking that Eris had abandoned him, but he continued his journey with a different group of adventurers and regained his zest for life. The story then took him to Ranoa University of Magic, where he was finally reunited with Sylphiette, who had been hiding her true identity from him and other students. Rudeus has yet to meet his mother, Zenith, or his mentor, Roxy, and we can’t wait to see what happens next.

6. Laid-Back Camp Season 3

The third season of the popular slice-of-life outdoor anime series, Laid-Back Camp Season 3(ゆるキャン△ Season 3) had been confirmed to air in Spring 2024. A notable point about the third season is that it has a different production studio than the previous two seasons. Previously, C-Station was in charge of the animation, masterfully merging a relaxed atmosphere with beautiful landscapes and adorable characters. For this third season, it’s being produced by Eight Bit, and you’ll notice a distinct difference in the art style. It will be interesting to see whether they will gravitate towards the past style or carve out a different charm. Let’s look forward to observing how it unfolds.

The manga series of Laid-Back Camp written by Afro was serialized on Manga Time Kirara Forward from 2015 to 2019 and has been published on a manga publishing website Comic Fuz since 2019. There are two current seasons in the anime series made by C-Station as well as a short spin-off series Room Camp in 2020 and a sequel movie Laid-Back Camp Movie in 2022.

Laid-Back Camp depicts peaceful outdoor days of several high school girls, set in Yamanashi Prefecture, which is famous for Japan’s highest mountain Mt. Fuji. The story revolves around an experienced solitary camper Rin Shima and a beginner Nadeshiko Kagamihara who joins the Outdoor Activities Circle in the high school. The third season continues to follow their high school life while Laid-Back Camp Movie presents their story in the future. As a new illustration by Afro to celebrate the production of the third season, Laid-Back Camp Season 3 will partly concentrate on Nadeshiko’s childhood friend Ayano Toki in addition to Rin and Nadeshiko.

7. Sound! Euphonium Season 3

The TV anime series Sound! Euphonium (響け!ユーフォニアム) is making a return with Sound! Euphonium Season 3 nearly eight years after the second season was aired in 2016. While several anime films bridging the gap have been released in the meantime, the third season has likely been eagerly awaited by fans. In addition to the compilation films, the original movies Liz and the Blue Bird in 2018 and Sound! Euphonium: The Movie – Our Promise: A Brand New Day in 2019 were broadcasted. Furthermore, in August 2023, Sound! Euphonium: Ensemble Contest Arc was released. The novel by Ayano Takeda has been adapted into an anime by Kyoto Animation since 2015, and Sound! Euphonium remains a popular slice-of-life and coming-of-age drama with no signs of waning enthusiasm.

In Sound! Euphonium Season 3, the protagonist Kumiko becomes a senior and is portrayed as the president of the Kita-Uji High School Brass Band Club. Essentially, this is the Kumiko’s 3rd Year arc. In the most recent mid-length anime movie, Sound! Euphonium: Ensemble Contest Arc, Kumiko, who has just become the president, is depicted dealing with various challenges. The spotlight is on Sound! Euphonium Season 3 as it follows their pivotal final year. There’s also anticipation around the enigmatic new character, Mayu Kuroe.

9. Blue Archive the Animation

The popular smartphone game Blue Archive, developed by South Korea’s Nexon Games, is adapted into an anime series as Blue Archive the Animation (ブルーアーカイブ The Animation). While there have been many anime adaptations of games in the past, the adaptation of the highly popular Blue Archive is met with great anticipation. Although Yostar Pictures has released short animations on the internet in the past, this Blue Archive the Animation is the first anime series, starting from April 2024. The production of Blue Archive the Animation is handled by Yostar Pictures, which produced the previous short animations, and Studio Candy Box, which is newly joining the project.

It’s a blend of slice-of-life comedy and fantasy gun action set in the fictional mega academic city of Kivotos. 10. Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night

As a project, producing an original anime is challenging compared to adapting a manga into anime because it’s harder for potential viewers to anticipate what to expect. A highly anticipated completely original anime for the Spring 2024 season is Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night (夜のクラゲは泳げない). It’s a slice-of-life drama set in Shibuya, depicting the coming-of-age story of a group of girls. The anime is produced by Doga Kobo, which surprised many fans with the quality of Oshi no Ko in 2023. The charm of this anime studio lies especially in their well-made slice-of-life and comedy productions. Doga Kobo is also busy this season with Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian. The director is Ryohei Takeshita, known for Ero Manga Sensei in 2017, and the original story is by Yuki Yaku, author of the light novel Bottom-tier Character Tomozaki.

The focus of Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night is on girls searching for their identity amidst the stimulating and bustling streets of Shibuya. As they approach the busy period of university entrance exams, these high school students try to use their remaining free time to answer the question, “Can I become someone?”. Some have talents in illustration, others are active as idols or VTubers, and some compose music. These girls, just beginning to recognize their individuality, form an anonymous artist group named JELEE.
