What Chapter Does Bocchi the Rock! Anime End in Manga?

Bocchi the Rock!

A new standard in school band anime was born in 2022 though the K-On! series had dominated the position until then. Bocchi the Rock! has gained much popularity since its airing in the autumn of 2022 though its manga series was not very well known before it was made into the animated series. Centering on Bocchi, a high school girl with extreme difficulty with interpersonal communication, it presents a slice-of-life and comedy story of her band group Kessoku Band, which is also formed by Nijika, Ryo and Ikuyo.

Bocchi the Rock!, made by one of the hottest anime studios, CloverWorks, aired with 12 episodes from October to December, 2022. It was adapted from Aki Hamaji’s four panel manga series that started in 2018. Many people may miss the anime so much that they look forward to the next season of it after it has finished airing.

If you have finished watching all existing episodes in the Bocchi the Rock! anime series, don’t worry. There is a way to enjoy the following story after the anime ends before the upcoming season comes. The manga series still has many more stories to tell after the end of the anime. Today, I’d like to introduce what chapter the Bocchi the Rock! anime’s first season ends in the manga series.

How many volumes does Bocchi the Rock! have?

The manga series of Bocchi the Rock! has been serialized on Manga Time Kirara Max since 2018, written by Aki Hamaji. Published in a four-panel format, it has 5 volumes so far (the latest 5th volume released in November, 2022.)

In addition, the first spinoff anthology manga titled Bocchi the Rock! Anthology Comic was published in October, 2022.

The English version of the Bocchi the Rock! tankobon book is not yet available, but given its popularity, we can predict that it will happen in the near future.

Where does Bocchi the Rock! anime end in manga?

The anime adaptation of Bocchi the Rock!, while expanding on the original story, follows it almost as is. Then, where should you start reading the manga series to enjoy the story after the anime?

The first season of the Bocchi the Rock! anime series finishes with Episode 12: Morning Light Falls on You (君に朝が降る), where the four members of Kessoku Band are depicted performing at a school culture festival live.

The development of the story and scenes in the anime may differ slightly from those in the original manga. Therefore, it may be difficult to say which volume to continue reading. However, my recommendation is to start reading from Volume 2, which consists of 12 chapters. Chapter 20 describes the scene of the performance at the school culture festival live, and Chapter 21 tells the story of Bocchi going to buy a new guitar. And, you can move on to beyond the anime series from Chapter 22 onwards.

Season 1: From Volume 1 Chapter 1 to Volume 2 Chapter 21
Season 2 (TBA): From Volume 2 Chapter 2

Get Volume 2 and read from Chapter 14 to 25!

As mentioned above, there can be slight differences between the anime and manga versions of the story and character portrayals. If you want to enjoy the complete story in its entirety, you should read it from the beginning, i.e., from the first volume.

When will Bocchi the Rock! Season 2 air?

Unfortunately, the second season of Bocchi the Rock! has not yet been decided. However, given such popularity around the world and the fact that only a couple of volumes of the manga have been animated, there is a great possibility that a second season will be produced in the near future.
