Overall Review for Anime of Autumn 2023

As of December 2023, this Autumn 2023 season has come to an end for now. The highlight of this autumn season is undoubtedly Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, which has recently started and overwhelmingly captured the hearts of a vast number of fans. The original manga was already popular, but the quality of the anime adaptation is incredible, with each episode resonating deeply. The second part continues to air in the 2024 winter season.

Following the previous season, Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 also maintains its overwhelming presence, especially the animation of the Shibuya Incident Arc battles was unparalleled. With Attack on Titan Final Season Part 3 (2nd Half), this great series has come to an end. I believe it will remain one of the best anime in history in terms of quality.

Also not to be missed is The Apothecary Diaries, which started new this season and became one of the most popular. It’s an anime that both men and women can enjoy, blending a relaxed atmosphere with serious mystery.

1. Spy x Family Season 2

The hottest action comedy anime series Spy x Family returns in the autumn of 2023 while the first anime movie titled Spy x Family Code: White has been announced to be released in December. Based on the original manga series serialized on Shonen Jump+ since 2019, the anime series began with the first 25 episodes in 2022. The next season is produced in collaboration with Studio and CloverWorks.

Loid, the spy, is to get close to Donovan Desmond, the most important person in Ostania. Yor must keep her job as an assassin secret. Anya, a student at an elite school, must keep her grades up and befriend the target’s son, Damian Desmond. Each of the three characters is on exciting missions, which is blended with the family’s smiling everyday scenes to create the best entertainment possible.

What is the most anticipated anime scheduled to air in the autumn of 2023? It is clear that Attack on Titan Final Season Part 3 (2nd Half) (進撃の巨人 The Final Season完結編 (後編)) has attracted the most attention worldwide. The final and fourth season of the popular dark-fantasy series started in 2020. After the two parts containing 28 episodes broadcasted between 2020 and 2022, the first half of the third part was televised in March 2023.

In order to stop Eren from going out of control, the members of the Survey Corps exert their final strength and take on the final phase of the story. 15. The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You

While there have been numerous harem anime in the past, none have attempted to feature 100 heroines. As the title suggests, The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You (君のことが大大大大大好きな100人の彼女) is a unique anime where the protagonist is pursued by 100 girls. Originally serialized in Shonen Jump+ since 2019, the manga was created by Rikito Nakamura with illustrations by Yukiko Nozawa. Bibury Animation Studios is in charge of the anime adaptation. It will be intriguing to see how they differentiate and characterize each of the 100 female characters.

Rentaro Aijo has confessed his feelings to 100 women, only to be rejected each time. But a deity at a shrine reveals that he has 100 destined ones waiting for him. As a high schooler, he meets two of these destined individuals and, to his surprise, they confess their feelings to him. 16. Shangri-La Frontier

The full-dive gaming-themed anime that’s garnering attention this season is Shangri-La Frontier (シャングリラ・フロンティア〜クソゲーハンター、神ゲーに挑まんとす〜). The original work is a novel by Katarina, which started its serialization on the online novel site Shosetsuka ni Naro in 2017. What makes this work unique is that, despite being adapted into an anime, it hasn’t been published as a light novel. However, a manga adaptation by Ryosuke Fuji began in 2020. While the novel hasn’t been published in book format, as of the anime’s premiere in October 2023, nearly 900 chapters have already been released.

In an era dominated by full-dive VR games, many are released with technical issues, termed “crappy games (kusoge)”. After clearing one such game, Rakuro Hizutome, a lover of these flawed games, is recommended the acclaimed Shangri-La Frontier by his local game shop owner and delves into its world as the player character, Sunraku.

17. Migi to Dali

Migi to Dali (ミギとダリ) didn’t necessarily have high expectations beforehand, but a somewhat surreal mystery anime has begun. It’s an anime where suspense mixes seamlessly with surreal humor. Based on the manga by Nami Sano serialized from 2017 to 2021, it was adapted into an anime by Geek Toys and CompTown. The manga’s author, Nami Sano, tragically passed away in August 2023, just before the anime’s debut. Our deepest condolences.

The setting is 1990, in Origon Village, a new town in Kobe City’s Kita Ward designed to resemble an American suburb. Twin boys Migi and Dali, who grew up in a children’s home, are adopted one day by a wealthy and gentle elderly couple, the Sonoyamas. However, they’re not adopted as the two boys Migi and Dali but as a single boy named Hitori Sonoyama. Concealing their true identities, they pretend to be Hitori while blending into Oregon Village. A profound secret and a chilling objective lies behind why they are pretending to be a single individual.
