10. Look Back

Look Back
Look Back

Look Back is a new coming-of-age manga, released as the 143-page long oneshot story on the free online manga site Shonen Jump Plus and translated into English on Manga Plus by Shueisha in July, 2021. The much-hyped manga is written by the hottest manga artist Tatsuki Fujimoto, who is famous for the recent dark-fantasy manga series Chainsaw Man.

Look Back focuses on a fourth-grade elementary school girl Fujino, who draws a manga strip for the school newspaper. She finds out about a truant Kyomoto, who is better at drawing than Fujino. The story unfolds after the two main characters, which captures and touches your heart emotionally.

The one-shot manga depicts the story looking below the surface of teenagers and alternative possibilities that could relate to them.

Their names seem to partly originate in the author’s name: “Fuji (藤)” of Fujino comes from Fuji of Fujimoto (藤本) and “Moto (本)” of Kyomoto from Moto of Fujimoto (藤本). That means their story is inspired by the real life of the manga artist.
